On May 4, 1970 we were forced to confront the reality that our government was willing to shoot student-protestors as they challenged the Viet Nam War. On that day, at Kent State in Ohio, the war came into our living rooms.

We are at a similar place today. Only this is much more complex, dangerous and negative. I am not a fortune teller, but I am a qualified Futurist and I am able to connect the dots about what is happening to America right now and under our noses. This change in America is not going to end well.

Our so-called Christian Nation has now been taken over by people who are comfortable relating to each other in hatred. Today’s vocal Christians are comfortable spewing their hatred all over the landscape. And they do this while proclaiming that Trump, our most un-Christ-like President, is ordained by God to lead this process. These Christians are certain that God is an English-speaking White Anglo and that God, through Trump, wants anyone not white and not English-speaking to go back to where they came from.

Where did all of this begin? We are still too blind and too forgetful to see that. In 1956 I was 14 years old and remember laughing at this dumb statement from the fat Communist leader Khrushchev: “We will take America without firing a shot. We do not have to invade the U.S. We will destroy you from within….”

Today, our leadership…. all of it…. demonstrates a blindness to the fact that America has been overtaken by our enemies. And like the Trojan Horse delivered inside the gates of the fortress at Troy, our enemy, Russia, has installed a puppet to lead us to ruin. And all we, like sheep, have gone astray.

Perhaps you felt it when you woke up in 2016 to the news that Trump had won. Surely you have felt it since. Little by little, Executive Order by Executive Order, our country is being taken apart and we have forgotten the promises we accepted that justified Trump’s election. We have even forgotten his assurances that Mexico would pay for his wall.

The religious leaders of our day, unlike those of the past, now praise Trump for every hateful and destructive statement he makes, ignore every immoral and un-Christ-like thing he does and revel in the greasy stench of the political power they have groveled themselves into.

Perhaps you have felt this more strongly as time has moved on. Here we have America, land of the free and home of the brave, justifying paying $750 a day to private prison companies who cannot find it in their budgets to provide toothpaste to children who they separated from their parents.

What we have here is the experience of a National Nervous Breakdown. There is not a drug or a plan to make us feel better. Our hearts are breaking and deep down we know we are experiencing what other empires have gone through when the decline set in. There is not one iota of evidence, in all of history, to suggest that any empire has been able to right itself once in decline.

God may intervene and help us, but for that to happen, we must cut the cord to all the evil now consuming us. That means you and me being willing to pray our way into a better future and being willing to stand up for what we know is right, right now.
