America is on the ride of our lives, and if you are like me, you spend a lot of time trying to understand what this is all about.  After living under the leadership of one of the best educated and most highly respected US Presidents and observing that we were able to have eight years of almost no scandals, and our country and our President and his family were loved around the world, we now find ourselves losing friends and allies in every part of the world, becoming the laughing stock of the major powers and being led by a man who appears to have no clue, from day to day, what he is doing or why.

His Presidency is characterized by a series of lies (some count more than 3000 lies told by the President in the first 13 months of his first term), sex scandals, millions of dollars sent on golf trips for which his hotels and golf clubs charge the American people enormous sums, which go right into his pockets.

He has broken treaties and promises made by America and in so doing placed the world itself in mortal danger. Twenty years from now, this white man will be hated around the world for his refusal to value unassailable science which lets us know that we have a global crisis on our hands, which will only grow worse under this man’s arrogant, ignorant and blustery leadership coupled with our failure to honor God’s creation as Holy.

He has blatantly ignored and abused many of the Christian norms that have been a part of American leadership since the beginning of our country.  Remarkably about 40% of the American voting public seems to think he is a doing a great job.

A majority of this 40% identifies themselves as Evangelical Christians.  They even go so far as to say that, without question, he has been ordained by God Herself to this position and for this purpose.

And you know what, they may be right.  An old Rabbi friend of mine used to say: “God works funny.” This may be one of those moments. God may have chosen a man who thumbs his nose at God to work out Her purpose in this modern, fear- filled world.

Who is to say that by pulling the United States out of the Paris Climate agreements, God chose this man to set us off on a course that hastens the day when this global calamity, which we have all known about for most of our adult lives, occurs.

Perhaps God wants us to confront this tragedy looming on the horizon much sooner because She is tired of us not taking Her word seriously.  This also applies to the threat of nuclear war, of which America is the most powerful proponent.

God may be showing us She can use the least qualified man to ever hold the Presidency of the United States to change history for the better by making all of these tragic mistakes and accelerating the arrival of this looming global tragedy.

When it arrives, this tragedy will require the best of each of us and a powerful life of prayer to honor this God who created it all.

And when you pray, ask God to let this bitter cup pass us by.
